Dear Stan,
I disagree with Maria B (Krazy Kev’s Kids Page last week) that the formula for maintaining a proper weight is simple.
It is the trickiest problem of today’s age in my opinion. There is no quick fix.
I can say that there is a huge gap in understanding about this problem. I’ll give an example, when you ask someone to diet, he, or she, will stop eating. That is absolutely wrong.
In my view, in addition to parents, the schools and education system should also play a role. There should be a compulsory daily half-an-hour for exercise. They should teach the students what are calories and how many calories are in fats, meat, cereals and fruits. They should regularly monitor the weight of children and discuss with parents if they find any student grossly overweight.
Parents should be concerned – but, you see, sometimes they are helpless in solving the problem.
