Saudi-based four-piece band Sid and the Tonics are due to perform at the Dilmun Club in Saar on May 24 in the Candles restaurant.

The band’s current line-up features John Hawkyard – ‘front man’, lead, vocals, guitars; Dave Smith – backing vocals, guitars, lights and PA; Dave Pyne – bass guitar; and Brian Bahr – drums. They will be making a return visit to the Dilmun Club due to popular demand and their repertoire will include 60s, 70s and 80s rock music.
Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets for the evening cost BD8 for members and BD12 for guests inclusive of dinner and show.

A four-piece soul group is to perform at Likwid, City Centre Hotel on May 16. Dubai-based Abri is a self-taught band that has brought a new sound to the Middle East. The vocalist  Hamdan,  born and raised in Dubai, promises to send chills through your body with Julian’s soul/jazz piano riffs, Justin banging bass lines and Andre’s raw funk drumming. Coming out of Dubai’s backyard with their first single to be released this month and album Sunchild, to be released at the end of the year, Abri is a band, you don’t want to miss. Entrance is BD3 per person and doors open at 9pm.

Party-goers are in for a treat this month as the popular Dubai-based Peppermint Club comes to Bahrain for a one-night experience with DJ Armin Van Buuren. The show, entitled Peppermint Xperience Bahrain, will be held on May 24 at the Marina Club’s arena, Manama, and promises to be an unforgettable evening.

Warm up set will feature international DJ Blake Jarrel. Holding firm at number two in the prestigious public-voted DJ Top 100, Dutch Armin van Buuren is making transition from talented young upstart to leading light in the echelons of trance and beyond.
  
Two new significant awards, namely Best Radio Show and Best Compilation for a State of Trance 2004 at the Miami Winter Music Conference Awards in Florida, US were awarded to the artist who was born to a musical family in 1976. His stunning new album ‘Shivers’ showcases his debut as a songwriter.

For the Bahrain debut, tickets are priced at BD10 regular pre-purchase, BD12 regular at the gate, BD30 (inclusive of two beverages) VIP pre-purchase and BD35 VIP at the gate. They will be available at Euphoria (Seef Mall), Motorox Café (Budaiya Road) and selected Costa Coffee outlets across Bahrain soon.  

The Indian Club May Queen Ball 2007 pageant has been put back from May 24 to May 31 to allow a star guest to attend. Reigning Pantaloons Femina Miss India Sarah Jane Dias will be among the special guests, while reigning May Queen, Filipina Elaine Quitevis will crown the winner. The competition is open to women of all nationalities aged between 15 and 28. The registration fee is BD2 per contestant. The event has been held for three decades has become one of the most prestigious events in Bahrain. All contestants will go through a “grooming session” to be conducted by show choreographer Shamima Noorani.
