Las Vegas magician Cris (Nicholas Cage), hero of the movie Next, can see into the future. Well, for us, the audience, it is just another Hollywood fantasy, but it is a bit surprising that Agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) copes with his paranormal abilities as if they were something quite commonplace. OK, so let’s be brought minded! Another problem she faces as part of her daily routine are French-speaking terrorists who prepare a huge nuclear attack. Fine, these things can happen, but why is the only way to stop them to catch hold of Cris – who will tell police what are the terrorists up to? This movie does not care about logic. Super positive hero Cris keeps refusing to co-operate (why?) so that more than first half of the movie involves him burning calories running from police – and you can bet that they use all their helicopters! The thrill should spring from the chasing scenes and from the game with several possible scenarios for future events. None are new, surprising or shown in an original way. Characters are plain and shallow – the police girl is tough, beloved girl is cute and Cris takes himself very seriously; dialogues… mostly dull. So when you come to make a decision on what to watch this evening I suggest you follow the order in the title of this movie and go for the next choice. l Thanks a lot for giving the audience the chance to speak up (and cool down) and hope my text will be useful for you. – Alena Bjackova, Juffair
