DUBAI: The Hard Rock International’s ‘Ambassadors of Rock Tour’ to the Middle East is getting its first star P!nk to the region on September 5 at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on Shaikh Zayed Road. P!NK’s successful album M!ssundaztood, was a hard-edged album, which featured several tracks written and produced by former 4 Non Blondes leader Linda Perry. The album repeated the commercial success of her debut, and featured the singles, ‘Get The Party Started’ and ‘Just Like A Pill’, which reached Top 5 on US music charts. MANAMA: A Latin and standard ballroom dancing competition is being organised at the Sampaguita Club in Moon Plaza Hotel in Umm Al Hassan. The grand finale is planned for September. MANAMA: Montreal-based singer, songwriter, producer, and musician Karl Wolf is expected to perform at the Gulf Hotel this October. His debut solo album ‘Face Behind the Face’ made the Canadian Top 100 sales chart and spawned two hit singles, Butterflies and Desensitise, featuring hip hop star Choclair. MANAMA: Leading Pakistani rock band Roxen are set to perform in Bahrain this October at the Al Ahli Club in Zinj. Roxen features Mustafa, Jawad and Omar. The group came out with their first hit single Yaadein. Roxen's unplugged track Tau phir aao was released over the Internet and registered over 65,000 downloads in one month. After the addition of Haider, from Lahore's underground music scene, the band started working on their debut album at Xth Harmonic studio in October 2005. Their debut album RED (Rozen-E-Dewar) was released last year and has been successful worldwide. Roxen stepped into Bollywood by contributing two tracks from the album to the big-budget film ‘Awarapan’. Ticket details and dates will soon be announced.
DUBAI: As part of the 60th Indian Independence celebration, a musical event – ‘Tiranga’ will be performed by India’s classical music maestros on August 15 at the Shaikh Rashid Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre. ‘Tiranga’, or three colours, is a celebration of the Indian flag through the music and poetry of India’s world-renowned art legends. It has been performed only in select venues including the Parliament House of India and the Royal Festival Hall in London. Renowned poet Padma Bhushan Javed Akhtar will pay a tribute to the orange, white and green colors as well as the ‘Ashoka Chakra’ (the wheel) in the Indian flag. The ‘Tiranga’ musical ensemble will feature esteemed vocalist Pandit Jasraj, flutist Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, mandolin player Vidhwan Srinivas, Pakhawaj (two headed hand drum) virtuoso Pandit Bhawani Shankar Kathak, tabla master Vijay Ghate and Ghatam (clay pot) prodigy S V Ramani. The event will be opened by an audio-visual presentation tracing the evolution of India’s national symbol beginning in 1906 and will be followed by the country’s national anthem. The event is part of a six-month long celebration starting on August 15 until January 26, 2008 in observance of the Indian Republic Day. The festivities will also include cultural performances by famous Indian artists, talks by prominent Indians, media campaigns, debates and quiz competitions for schoolchildren. MANAMA: Ray Lewis, a former member of the legendary soul band ‘The Drifters’ makes his first visit to the Middle East on August 8 at the JJ’s Irish Pub in the Al Bustan Hotel in Adliya. Ray fronted the group during 1970s and 80s and during that time performed a string of their hit songs such as ‘Under The Boardwalk’, ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’, ‘Up on the Roof’, ‘There Goes my First Love’, and ‘More than a number in my Little Red Book’.
