Dear Stan, I read Marie-Clair’s article about the blood cancer victim. And the comment that stuck in my mind “Whatever the reason, only a small number of people find it in their hearts to dig into their pockets”. Unfortunately I feel that the problem here is that the majority of people think that they have to give a large amount to help and feel embarrassed to only give a few dinars, therefore nothing if donated. But what they do not realise is that nothing is too small. However, you still cannot get away from the embarrassment factor – how can we donate a few dinars when we spend more on having our hair done! Hopefully from the article the goals will be reached by people digging in their pockets. I would like to suggest if not perhaps to help this boy and to reach the goal – is to inform everyone (majority rules) and that all donations no matter how small will help, whether it be BD5, 10, 20 etc. Dena Wales Bahrain
Dear Stan, We at the US embassy have been reading your weekly shopping list and are indeed impressed. We are a diplomatic mission with a total of 79 employees (including expatriates and Bahrainis), therefore everyone is keen on reading and contributing to your list. At the same time, our Post Management is fully aware of the rise in Bahrain’s cost of living and with your weekly shopping list, other articles in the newspapers and our personal input we intend to report the situation to our headquarters in Washington, DC.
