The Muharraq Municipality Summer Festival kicked off near the Divers’ Corniche.

The festival, which is part of celebrations marking the Premier receiving the UN Scroll of Honour award, is being organised by the municipal council in association with Al Ghad International for Exhibitions and Conferences. A donation of up to BD500 was pledged by Batelco to the Kidney Friendship Society to assist in the production of an informative book about its work. A presentation ceremony was attended by company corporate affairs general manager Ahmed Al Janahi and society marketing manager Mohammed Fahmy at Batelco’s headquarters, Hamala.

Ten secretaries and office administrators from Alba completed a four-day workshop at Mövenpick Hotel. The training programme covered efficiency, communication, motivation and teamwork, and was conducted by secretarial skills instructor Amita  Krishna. The Indian Overseas Global Congress, Bahrain Chapter, celebrated its country’s 60th Independence Day anniversary and Kerala’s harvest festival, Onam. The event began at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam, Manama, with a public meeting, followed by cultural programmes. Ambassador Balakrishna Shetty was chief guest and All-India Congress Committee member Rajmohan Unnithan guest of honour. Guest speakers included India-based Jai Hind Communications chairman Vijayan Thomas, GDN associate editor Soman Baby and Mavelikkara Association president John Iype. The event concluded with the Onasadya (Onam feast).

A variety of cultural and social programmes to celebrate India’s 60th Independence Day anniversary were hosted by the Kerala Catholic Association at its premises in Segaiya. It also featured a drama entitled Sare Jahan Se (Of the Entire World) based on the theme of India’s struggle for independence and the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives.

Guess boutique opened its second outlet in Bahrain at the Seef Mall’s new extension. It is part of the Al Hawaj and Sons Group and the new store carries clothing and accessories for men, women, boys and girls and also a new range. Present at the opening were deputy group general manager Abdulwahab Al Hawaj, division manager Ali Al Aradi, operations manager Ahmed Yousif Al Hawaj and retails manager Hussain Al Hawaj.
