Dear Stan,

Thanks for your support in printing our Riffa Primary School photos, you make a lot of bunnies very happy!

Jackie,

Bahrain.

Dear Stan,

With reference to your pearl diving article on Rob Gregory in GulfWeekly issue 35.

I live in Tucson AZ and am a member of an online pearl-guide https://www.pearl-guide. com forum with a diverse membership and interest in pearls.

My grandparents Max and Leila Thornburg lived on Umm a Sabaan (if it is still called that) for decades and even had a pearl dhow for a while.

I visited them in 1954 when I was 13 so I have a special interest in Bahraini pearls. I even have a string of them. I personally share the view of Bahrainis that the only good pearl is a solid nacre pearl. I do not love the pearl-plated beads that are being cultured now.

Anyway, I would like to get into contact either Rob or Robin if they have email…please forward my interest.

Thanks for the good work. Bahrain has got to be one of the best places to write about pearls!

Dear Stan,

Could you please publish this photograph in GulfWeekly. Fasten your seat belts – a group of people having great fun at the Bahrain Yacht Club, in Sitra. With grateful thanks for your support.

Joanne,

Bahrain Yacht Club.

Editor’s note: If you have fun pictures taken at your club email them to editor@gulfweekly.com for possible publication.

Dear Stan,

I have watched the GulfWeekly grow with interest. At first I could not see the point in a weekly newspaper as surely all the news had already been printed in the GDN every day. Certainly in those early days I felt my concerns were justified, but you obviously knew where you were going with this. I now enjoy reading my GulfWeekly on Wednesday mornings.

It is full of great local stories with information on people, places and local history and traditions that I would not usually have been privy to without the GulfWeekly.

I would never normally read a ‘problem page’ but must confess that ‘Ask Betsy’ has changed my mind on that. I might even write in to her one day.

New Zinj.

Dear Stan,

My biggest reality check since arriving back from holiday in the UK is, of course, coping with the truly atrocious driving. Three near misses in the first afternoon I was back.

After we had been in the UK for a week or so my younger son remarked at the fact that everyone in England was a fabulous driver and they even followed all the rules! Out of the mouth of babes!

Worried mum,

Juffair.

Dear Stan,

I take this opportunity to thank GulfWeekly for your kind patronage of ‘The Lebanon Trade Centre’ and the subsequent inclusion of our supermarket in Shilpa’s Shopping List; whereby our customer base has expanded. Keep up the good work!

Yet, it has been noted that in recent issues of the publication – specifically the September 12-18, 2007 issue, the products being compared were of the same nature/purpose but not so of the same brand as was being considered in previous issues. Established brands do have a higher mark-up value as compared to those available locally/regionally.(See table below)

Markets Products considered Price stated

                  (BD/fils)

Lebanon Trade Centre SIS Pure Sugarcane – 2kg 0.800

Lulu Hypermarket Lulu Sugar – 2kg 0.475

Lebanon Trade Centre Al Matrood White Bread 0.300

Lulu Hypermarket Lulu White bread 0.200

As it can be clearly seen from the above, a negative concept of the LTC pricing may weigh on the customer’s mind without noting the difference in brand names considered. Hence we request that for future publications, please provide comparative pricing on same brand products.

We look forward to serve our customers to the best of our abilities. Your comments or suggestions are most welcome, for we aim to please.

Ramadan Kareem! Happy Shopping!

Harish Sewani – GM.

Editor’s note: Point taken … this week we have changed items on the list to ensure our stores keep on their toes and continue to offer value for money to our readers.
