Get ready for a true dose of chaotic hilarity, as the Golden Tulip brings you the immensely entertaining story of Peter Searles' backpacking trip across South America, as told by the actor himself.

This is a stand-up comedy act with a difference, as Searles, a hugely talented raconteur, will have you in stitches with his account of his travels across the continent.

As an out-of-work actor in the 80s, a fed-up and bored Searles decided one day to pack up his bags and buy a ticket to South America, with a travel budget of $5 (BD1.89) a day.

What ensues is a prolonged period of madness, seen through the good-humoured eyes of Searles and now laid out in a great stand up comedy show entitled, Hey Gringo!

From his arrival in Caracas, Peru, minus his luggage, to the unexplored Amazon, through dodgy South American prisons and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, Searles presents an amusing take on his experiences.

Along the way he provides a catalogue of close scrapes and surprise encounters with drug-smugglers, Dutch air hostesses, Carmelite monks, Maoist guerillas, Mancunian ornithologists, Amazonian Indians and a French shaman - not to mention the crocodiles, jaguars and giant centipedes.

For the past eight years, Searles has toured his internationally-acclaimed trilogy of one-man shows about his extraordinary South American odyssey throughout the UK, the US, Europe, Middle and Far East, Ireland and Bermuda.

Sell-out successes include the Royal National Theatre, Soho Theatre, Royal Exchange Manchester, Cheltenham Literature and the Chichester and Bermuda Festivals.

Described by the Evening Standard as "a great stand-up storyteller," and a "wonderful, talented comedian," by The Scotsman, critics have also referred to him as "a mixture between Billy Connelly and a Radio 4 travel show presenter."

Searles has already had audiences crack up around the world, and this is a one-off chance to catch him in Bahrain, courtesy of Streetwise Productions and the Golden Tulip Bahrain.

The opening show on November 27 includes a gala dinner, for which tickets are priced at BD22++ and are available at the hotel.

Meanwhile, tickets for the shows on November 28 and 29 cost BD18++.

"This is a full evening's entertainment," says Golden Tulip sales director Abdullah Samaheji.

Doors open at 7.30pm each night and guests are asked to arrive early to ensure that they have eaten before the show begins between 9pm and 9.30pm.

Smoking is not permitted once the performance has begun, except during the interval.
