One of Bahrain's best loved family and social events, The Wheelathon, is to take place this Friday.
Children and adults of all ages will head to the Bahrain International Circuit with bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller-skates and any non-motorised form of transport to wheel around the track in aid of charity.
Organiser David Axtell said: "I am really excited about this year's events.
"All the favourites of years gone by will be coming and we also have Porsche who will be bringing their ever popular children's driving school.
"The event has developed a reputation for being a hugely popular family day out. Its fun and flexible and each year it gets better."
The 5.4km track is divided into a fast and slow lane to accommodate all abilities, and there will also be a 2.2km track for smaller children.
One of the highlights of the event will be the hospital bed race. Two teams of six (one in the bed and five pushing) will race head-to-head down the main straight of the F1 track.
This year, the BIC's team will compete in a bed kitted out to look like a racing car, while the KLM team will compete in a bed designed to look like an aeroplane.
"We hope people participate in some weird and wacky outfits," added David.
The event will also feature entertainment from DJ Krazy Kevin, as well as face painting, balloon twisting, clowns and a bouncy castle.
Prizes will be given to those generating the highest level of individual sponsorship within each category. A prize will also be awarded to the school that collectively raises the most sponsorship.
It is the fourth time the event has been staged at the BIC and this year's proceeds will go to a range of local charities including the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation and Bahrain's breast cancer charity Think Pink.
Minimum sponsorship for children is BD3 and BD10 for adults.
The bed race will take place on Friday, April 18, at 1pm. Registration for The Wheelathon opens at 3pm. For more information call David Axtell on 39432133.
