Wednesday (April 30)¥ The Art Centre in Manama is holding an exhibition of Italian clothes, furniture, rugs and paintings until Friday.

On display at the 'Italian Style - Dressing the Body and Daily Life' exhibition will be 160 items including 40 dresses created by top Italian designers such as Valentino, Armani, Versace, Capucci and Krizia.

There will also be a selection of Sardinian carpets and wooden wedding boxes and a collection of acrylic paintings of palms and Mediterranean landscapes, by artist Mario Schifano. Opening hours are from 8am to 1pm and 4pm to 8pm Saturday to Thursday, and Fridays from 4pm and 8pm. See Pg 11.

¥ Lemonade Splash at the Banyan Tree Spa and Resort's Pool Bar offers an outdoor relaxation with home-made lemonades, strawberry and chilli, lemon and mint, cinnamon and cloves and other flavours. ¥ Labour Eve with Matt Tolfrey Matt at LEVEL, located on the Club Seven complex of the Mishal Hotel in Manama. DJ, producer and manager of UK's record label, Leftroom, Tolfrey has also performed globally with gigs for Sunday School for Degenerates in Miami, regular dates at Fabric, Mulletover in Ibiza and Watergate in Berlin. ¥ The South African Community of Bahrain is hosting a function at the Marina Club from 7pm onwards with proceeds going to the BSPCA. Tickets are priced at BD9 per person and children under two years of age have free entry.

Friday (May 2)

¥ Electric Motel will be held at the Club Seven in the Mishal Hotel in Manama. Ohm Records from Dubai and Torque from Bahrain team up and will feature live electronic-music performers, Jalebee Cartel of India and UK house pioneers, Smokingroove.

¥ Indian TV game show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge will hold auctions in Bahrain at the Gulf Gate Hotel in Manama.

Comedians who speak Hindi or Urdu can register and winners of a regional contest will get the chance to appear on the show. The audition will begin at 3pm.

The show is being co-ordinated by Bahrain-based Ultimate Events for the Star One TV channel that broadcasts the show. Applicants must submit their forms and pay BD2 per form between 4pm and 9pm at the Gulf Gate Hotel on May 1. For details contact 36426107, 36337700 or 36311505.
