Tabreed Bahrain aims to chill down the kingdom with its innovative 'District Cooling' system, giving home owners and property developers' cost effective solutions to taming the Middle East's summer heat wave.
Established in October 2004, Tabreed Bahrain already boasts an impressive list of clients providing cooling for developments such as the Bahrain World Trade Centre, Bahrain Financial Harbour, Reef Island and Marina West among others.
Tabreed Bahrain is in the process of installing a network of pipes under the ground connecting customers to its District Cooling facility. This facility pumps chilled water to the customer which is then converted into cold air by going through an air handling unit.
Chief executive officer Bernt Andersson said: "We are a utility company providing chilled water from a central facility through a network of pipes to buildings and developments for air-conditioning purposes. Since the climate in the Middle East is obviously hot and humid, permanent cooling is needed. District Cooling meets these requirements.
"In Bahrain there is a large demand for air-conditioning and at peak demand 70 per cent of the power is used for air-conditioning purposes. Now that there are many large developments in Bahrain, it would be more cost effective and efficient to have District Cooling.
"The benefits of this system are that you will have approximately 10 to 15 per cent in capital savings.
"There will be lower government spending and reduced investment in electrical infrastructure, the operational risks will be less of a headache as there is no maintenance of the building chillers, and in the end you pay for what you use, as there is a flexibility to increase or decrease your cooling requirement."
In addition, the company says District Cooling helps the environment by increasing energy efficiency and reducing the environmental emissions including air pollution, the "greenhouse gas" carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone-destroying refrigerants.
Mr Andersson joined the company last year and boasts more than 27 years' experience in the energy industry. Tabreed's vision is to be the premier provider of efficient 'District Cooling services' in the kingdom, delivering reliable and environmentally-friendly cooling solutions.
Tabreed Bahrain is currently in the process of installing a network of pipes from the Diplomatic Area to the Seef District.
