CHILDREN enrolling at the new Riffa Views International School will be working on individual laptop computers as part of an ambitious plan to take teaching and studying into a new hi-tech future, writes Asma Salman.
Pupils will be able to log off from their class work and log back on at exactly the same page when they return to their villas and apartments to continue with homework.
The investment to provide the equipment and associated technology is likely to cost more than BD600,000 ($1.6 million).
The hardware is currently being installed by Acropolis, the same team of experts from The Netherlands which is working on similar hi-tech communications projects at major developments on the island.
Some leading international universities boast similar facilities but this is unique for a school.
“Every child will have a laptop computer connected to the central server room with smart boards and LCD projectors in every classroom,” said Bruce McWilliams, director of RVIS, who brings with him a wealth of experience having been affiliated with American schools in Dubai and Moscow for over two decades.
Technology will be a strong selling point to potential parents as RVIS is being wired with fibre-optic cables alongside a wireless network throughout the campus. It will be the first school of its kind on the island to offer such an exceptional hi-tech infrastructure within a school environment.
