BMW Sauber drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica are happy to take any points left over by Ferrari and McLaren.

Both moved up from their starting spots at the Turkish Grand Prix to get in the points on Sunday, especially after McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen couldn't hold his place.

Kubica was upset about losing ground to championship leader Kimi Raikkonen after the Ferrari driver dropped behind him following a problematic start. Raikkonen has 35

points to lead Kubica by 11.

"I made a very good start and managed to gain two positions. I was then racing Kimi Raikkonen, but he pitted later and overtook me at the pit stop," the Pole said. Kubica finished fourth, while Heidfeld was fifth after starting in ninth.

"This is what I hoped for, from ninth on the grid," the German said. "To finish fifth was the best I could achieve today."

Although BMW Sauber missed out on the podium for a second straight race, it stayed second in the constructors' standing with 44 points to trail Ferrari by 19. It holds a

two-point cushion over McLaren.

"We have scored nine important points," BMW technical director Willy Rampf said.

"This is more than can be expected if you start from fifth and ninth, therefore we are happy with the results."

BACK IN THE POINTS: Fernando Alonso of Renault finished sixth at the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday to snap a two-race streak without any points.

The two-time Formula One world champion had an engine problem at the Spanish GP two weeks ago after finishing 10th at Bahrain, which ended a 40-race run of scoring points.

"It's an important step. This confirms that we've improved," said the Spaniard, who has nine championship points.

Renault is equal sixth in the constructors' standing with Toyota on nine points after Nelson Piquet Jr finished 15th at Istanbul Speed Park circuit.

"Fernando made a fantastic start and had a great race to get us some important points," Renault team principal Flavio Briatore said. "We are confident that we are starting a new phase which will see us get closer and closer to the top three teams."

TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS: Mark Webber is looking to extend his contract at Red Bull.

The Australian's second straight good performance at the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday might help.

Webber finished seventh to earn two points to be seventh in the drivers' standings with 10 points from five races - the same tally he accrued in all of last season.

"Getting more points is good for the team, especially after the way they turned my car round after my shunt," said Webber, who slammed into the wall at practice on Friday to damage his front suspension.

The 31-year-old Webber's contract expires at the end of this season.

Teammate David Coulthard managed a top-10 showing after two poor performances.
