¥ Last day of the World Press Photo exhibition being held at the Seef Mall featuring more than 200 prize-winning photographs of photo journalists from all over the world covering human interest, politics, sports and travel. ¥ An art exhibition will be held at the British School Bahrain's new premises in Hamala. Twenty-five students will be exhibiting their work - 17 at GCSE-level and eight at A-Level. The main themes for this year will be Links and Connections, Transition and Barriers and the paintings will be a mixture of representational, semi-abstract and abstract work including portraiture, the figure, video art, wire sculpture, installation and painting. Notable pieces at the exhibition will be MTV-animated 'shorts', a wake for a rag doll, large-scale gloss-paint 'suspects' portraits, farmyard chic, plasticised portraiture and obsessive collections of the macabre. ¥ The Young Goans Club will host its annual May Queen contest at the Marina Club poolside in Manama. The event is by invitation only and begins at 8.30pm. ¥ The Fiesta sa OWWA 2008 will take place at the Delmon International Hotel, Manama from 1pm to 7pm.
The event will feature a Flores De Mayo (Flowers of May) parade of women dressed in traditional costumes, live entertainment and traditional games for children and adults. Proceeds of the event will go to 'Tuloy-Aral', a scholarship programme of the Philippine Government for the underprivileged and street children. ¥ A photography exhibition - Double Vue is being held at La Maison Jamsheer in Muharraq. It has been created by award-winning Lebanese-born Canadian artist Camille Zakharia. The exhibition aims to reflect the impact Bahrain's economic boom has had on the cultural and social development of the country and its people. He has captured the changing of the country's landscape by exploring its streets, towns, villages, alleys, farms and barren desert. The photographs feature Muharraq, and other villages as well as its government housing projects of the 1960s to 1980s and compounds. They also capture new skyscrapers and new developments. The exhibition runs until June 19 and is open to the public from 9am to 2pm and 4pm to 8pm daily. ¥ A 'Bowl for Charity' tournament is taking place at the Funland Bowling Centre in Manama daily from 6pm onwards. Finals will be held on May 30.
