BUDDING young fashion designers have the chance to get their ideas showcased to the kingdom in a competition which could win them great prizes and recognition.
Bahrain residents aged 18 and below are eligible to take part in the competition to come up with T-shirts that are funky and young and shout out their passions, thoughts and ideas of living in harmony and unity through the 'Splash Design It' competition.
Centred on the theme of shout, share, live and unite, the competition, organised by the youth garment store, Splash, is open to residents of the six Gulf countries (Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE) and Jordan.
Youngsters are not limited in the number of designs they can enter or how they present their creations - they can be anything from crayon drawings to ink or printing.
The best ideas, which will be judged on originality, authenticity and expression of the theme, will be displayed at Splash outlets in the kingdom.
Marketing manager Zafar Ali said: "I encourage all youngsters, of whichever nationality, to participate and send in as many entries as possible. It will increase their chances of winning and the shortlisted best will be sent to Dubai for the final selection.
"Participants can use paint, crayons or pencil. They are free to express themselves and will be judged purely on the creativity that goes with the theme of the competition.
"When designing the youngsters need not work towards pleasing an audience...they should concentrate on their very own creativity.
"There is also a possibility that if a design is really good it will be adapted on to one of the Splash T-shirts and if so we will also be giving a name credit to the designer providing a chance for young designers to be discovered by a label."
The winners will be selected in three age groups - under 12 years, 13 to 15 years and 16 to 18 years. The overall winner from each country will be invited with three members of their family to attend the Back2School Fest on October 17 in Dubai. The prize includes airfare and hotel stay for all four and a day at Wild Wadi Water Park.
Three other top designs in each category from each country will win a gift voucher worth BD100 from Splash.
