Fahad Al Musalam will be the first driver from the Middle East to participate in the Australian V8 Supercars Championship Series.
Following talks between Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) and Team Kiwi Racing it was confirmed that he was invited to race for the New Zealand outfit after his exceptional performance in Winton Raceway with the Garry Rogers Motorsport team.
Al Musalam had tested with the GRM team in Australia back in May as part of his prize after winning the Lumina CSV ME championship and impressing fans and racing executives, amongst them Team Kiwi Racing.
As part of the agreement Al Musalam will make his debut guest appearance during the Gulf Air Desert 400 round of the Series this November 6-8, on home soil at the BIC.
Al Musalam said: "I am looking forward to driving with Team Kiwi Racing and it gives me great honour to be the first Middle Eastern driver to be racing alongside some the world's top touring champions.
"I am looking to compete in this race as I know I will be racing next to the Australian drivers with all their experience, but I aspire to start, finish and perform to the best of my ability."
Having tested with the GRM team aboard a right-hand drive Holden, Al Musalam will now be driving a Ford as part of the Team Kiwi Racing outfit. On this subject he highlighted that he was looking forward to the experience as the two cars were each different with altogether different chassis' and character.
Al Musalam thanked Team Kiwi Racing for making his driving dream a reality and added that he looked forward to meeting the team and drivers and hoped to make the kingdom proud.
Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, chief operating officer at BIC, said that Team Kiwi Racing contacted BIC asking for Fahad to join them for the upcoming round in Bahrain.
He added that it was a proud moment for the kingdom as a Bahraini driver had managed to attract the attention of teams in Australia and how delighted the BIC was to host the coming V8 race with a Bahraini driver on the grid. He also urged motorsport fans in the kingdom to come and show their support for the Bahraini champion during the three-day race weekend.
