GulfWeekly winners of the 'Play with a Star' auction to raise funds for young golfers in Bahrain had an incredible time at the new Royal Golf Club.

David Richard Wales, 55, telecommunications manager from Jasra, said: "I made the bid to play with Colin Montgomerie because he is my golfing hero.

"I have been playing golf since I was seven years old and came with my lovely wife Dena.

"Dena is playing with Camilo Villegas. I didn't have to convince her to take part because she really wanted to. I think every lady is a fan of Camilo. Haven't you seen him yet, because you will understand once you do?"

David Axtell, 38, a health insurance executive from Saar, said: "I thought this was a lifetime opportunity to play with some of the best golfers in the world particularly in a country that is opening its first international golf course. I consider Bahrain my home since I have been here for 14 years.

"Camilo wasn't my favourite golfer but he is now. He was the leading ranked golfer taking part and I figured it would be ideal to play with a future Number One.

"I just want to have some fun - maybe hit the green once as all I had been hitting is the bunker. Can you believe that, I keep landing in sand ... in Bahrain?"

Bill Todd, 46, who works for DHL, from Adliya, said: "It is a pleasure to be able to play with a professional golfer that you would normally watch on television."

Simon Hart, 50, works at the British Embassy, from Janabiya, said: "I so much wanted to play golf with Camilo Villegas because he is Colombian and my wife is Colombian. We have been married for 20 years and we used to live there. In fact, my golf clubs are still in Colombia and I had to borrow a set from the club today!"
