The Royal Society of St George hosted its first Coffee Morning With a Twist at the Goodlife Gallery Cafe in Budaiaya to raise funds for the needy children of Bahrain.

Racks and shelves were filled with top-end designer wear, bags and shoes donated by members of the society and the general public. The event started at 9.30am and carried on until midday with a BD2.5 cover charge for coffee and cake and the opportunity for some serious shopping.

The proceeds collected through the designer sale will be donated to local charities in need of support.

Organiser and committee member, Tracy Lines, 41, from Saar, said: "This is the first coffee morning that we have ever done so I am not sure of what the numbers will be.

"Last year we managed to donate about BD11,619 in total divided up for a number of charities such as the BSPCA, Migrant Workers Association and NBB Home for the Disabled.

"This fundraiser could turn out to be a big success so fingers crossed."

Happy shopper Suzie Gray, 59, a housewife, from Budaiya, said: "I think this event was really nice. It is purposeful, there are lovely things for ladies and I think it went down a storm."

The society will be holding many more fundraisers in the future such as the 'Easter Picnic in the Park' on March 28.
