THE island's rising number of tourists has prompted a holiday company to set up a Half Day City Tour of Bahrain offering visitors the chance to see some of the island's memorable sights.

The new tour will be offered by Zangari Travel and Tourism and is claimed to be the first of its kind to cater for residents and expatriates as well as those visiting the kingdom on the increasing numbers of cruise ships.

The tour aims to give a taste of a selection of Bahrain's treasures both past and present.

Beginning from the Bab Al Bahrain tourists will be taken by air-conditioned bus to the Beit Al Quran, home to an immensely valuable collection of Islamic manuscripts and rare artefacts.

The Al Fateh Grand Mosque is the next stop followed by Bahrain National Museum with its painting, sculptures and ceramics.

Visitors will also be taken to the beautifully restored 15th century Arad Fort and Shaikh Isa's House, the former residence of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, the present king's grandfather. The house in Muharraq is one of the oldest on the island and gives an example of royal life in the 19th century.

Finally tourists will visit the King Fahad Causeway, the bridge between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia where there is time for a coffee or a cold drink before returning to the Bab Al Bahrain.

The new tour is planned to leave daily at 9am, except Fridays, and will be back at the Bab Al Bahrain by 1.30pm.
