A NATIONAL call centre, allowing access to all government e-services, has been given the go ahead for Bahrain.

At its 25th meeting the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT) agreed the establishment of a new company, jointly owned by the government and an, as yet unnamed, international company, which will take on the project of setting up and running the call centre.

The facility will enable members of the general public to access all government e-services, apart from emergency services, through a single easy-to-remember number as well as offering customer technical support services.

SCICT chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa told the meeting the new call centre will not only offer high quality government services and create jobs for Bahrainis, it will also establish the kingdom as a call centre leader in the region contributing to the diversity of the economy.

The meeting also agreed the establishment of 15 common service centres throughout the kingdom which will offer government e-services allowing residents to conduct their government business through self-service e-kiosks free of charge. The first of these centres is expected to be operational within two months.

And reviewing the e-Government Authority's achievements committee members heard that since the launch of the eGovernment strategy the number of visitors to the national portal has reached almost 12 million.
