Bahrain Air, the first privately owned carrier of Bahrain, said it has taken the necessary preparations to commence direct commercial flights from Bahrain to Baghdad and Najaf at a total of seven flights a week.
There will be two weekly flights to Baghdad with effect from August 28 and five weekly flights to Najaf from September 17.
A delegation from the senior management of the company visited Iraq to finalise the operational requirements, the inspection of the security aspects, the air safety and to complete the contracts of the ground handling issues.
Ibrahim Abdulla Al Hamer, managing director, said: "The announcement followed a mutual agreement between Bahrain and Iraq civil aviation authorities.
"With flights to these two cities, we serve the increasing demand from travellers particularly from the Iraqi community residing in Bahrain and the other GCC countries or for those who are visiting their families or are travelling for business or leisure."
