BAHRAIN'S Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro has toured Manama and Muharraq central markets and inspected meat markets to examine the quantity and quality of meat, fruits and vegetables on sale.
During the visit, the minister was briefed on selling, buying, distribution and movement of essential goods to meet consumer demands.
The minister met with fruit and vegetable traders, who assured him of the availability of all kinds of produce at affordable prices.
Supplier Redha Al Bustani said that all traders were ready for the Holy Month of Ramadan and believed prices would fall by 20 to 30 per cent.
Ibrahim Salman of the Bahrain Livestock Company said a ship will arrive shortly in Bahrain loaded with a large quantity of cows to help cope with the growing demand for meat products over the next few weeks.
The minister also visited Ramez Supermarket in Manama to look at the availability of goods and food in preparation for the Holy month of Ramadan.
A store spokesman revealed that the price of sugar has risen due to global increases but the price of Thai rice was 30 per cent less than Basmati rice.
