English golf professional Rob Brightman and club captain Duncan Steele of Millbrook Golf Club put up a superb performance in the second round of the Gulf Air PGA Pro Captain Challenge to clinch the trophy at the Royal Golf Club.

The duo, who lay in joint fourth place overnight after shooting a 69 on Tuesday, totted up a whole clutch of birdies in the second round, coming in with a superb eight under par 64 giving them a two round total of 133, eleven under par.

Richard Dinsdale and Steve Williams of Parc Golf Academy in Wales, who lay in joint first place after round one, shot a very respectable 67 in the second round to clinch the runners up slot with a total score of ten under par 134.

"Obviously we are both absolutely delighted with our win," commented Rob Brightman after the match.

"We set ourselves a target of shooting 10 or 11 under in total; we were pretty confident that it would be enough to give us a win. We felt more relaxed today having had some time to get used to the course and I played steadily throughout. Duncan's putting was awesome - his 25 foot putt on the 18th for a gross birdie turned out to be the winning shot."

Seven pairs of finalists from the seven PGA regions of the UK and Ireland were flown to Bahrain courtesy of Gulf Air. Gulf region finalists Alan MacKenzie and Francisco Giles from Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club also competed as well as Royal Golf Club representatives Michael Braidwood, general manager, and Club Captain Alan Horne.
