A fabulous show

The weekend's Breef Show Jumping Championship, as usual, witnessed a fabulous day's jumping by all.

It was Benny Diricx, on his horses AirForce One and Al Khalidiah Mikaela that swept through the top adult classes, being placed first and fifth in the adult Open or B class and first and fourth in the Grand Prix or A class.

In the Junior section it was Juliana Cortes and Urasche claiming podium position in the B class, with Hadi Ebrahim Al Afoo - definitely one to watch - on his fantastic horse Rikki Tikki Tavi coming a close second.

Another consistent name in the placings was Laura Louise Wilkie, being placed on Safe and Bushiya.

(Full list of the winners can be found on the Breef website in their showjumping results section.)

The next Breef Show Jumping Championships will be held on February 26.

Meanwhile, Shakhoora Riding Centre in Saar will be hosting their first show jumping event of the season on Friday. This event, which is being sponsored by Things To Do, Blue Dawn and United Gulf Steel Mill, promises to be a fun-packed event.

One of the classes is a 'pairs jumping' class, always an edge-of-the-seat event.

The pairs set off at the same time and have to complete the course together; they can jump the fences one after the other, or simultaneously. This event produces twists and turns that will amaze, in some cases, even the riders themselves.

The lead rider, however, must not jump the next fence until his/her partner has jumped the lead rider's previous fence. Confused ... hmmm ... come and watch, it will all become very clear, very quickly - almost as quick as the class.

Other classes in the show are: Junior 1 Green Horse/Rider (60/70cms); Junior 2 (70/80cms); Pairs (70/80cms); Junior 3 Adult Novice (90/100cms); Adult Intermediate (110/115cms).

The event will start at 9am, and all spectators are welcome. For more information, call 17591103.

This promises to be an excellent event, and I look forward to seeing you all there.

On February 27, riders will go into the fray in the second of the higher dressage classes of the Twin Palms Riding Centre Dressage League.

This show will feature the Novice, Elementary and Medium dressage tests; it is also going to hold Freestyle-to-Music class, which promises to be magnificent, with riders being given a free rein to perform their own moves.

We are very much looking forward to this event and have it on good authority that we will be seeing many of the winners from previous events back to defend their titles.

This weekend, along with the Breef Open for local stables Endurance Event scheduled for Saturday and the usual horse racing on Friday, promises action all the way. Enjoy the weekend and your horse!
