THE new 911 Turbo, pinnacle of Porsche's range of production sports cars, was unveiled in style at Porsche Centre Bahrain.
A video screening and pretty models adorned the showroom as the wrappers of the popular beast were pulled aside to satisfy the lenses of the pack of press photographers.
All key features of the Porsche 911 Turbo have been 'significantly improved' and, with less weight and more power, the new model boasts enhanced driving dynamics, a higher top speed and a substantial increase in fuel efficiency, the makers say.
A brand new 3.8-litre powerplant, upgraded from its original 3.6 litre guise, delivers a maximum output of 500 bhp and features direct fuel injection and Porsche's exclusive turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. As an option, the new six-cylinder engine may be combined for the first time with Porsche's seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) (Porsche's Double-Clutch Gearbox).
The combination of PDK, direct fuel injection and turbocharging ensures 'an unprecedented standard' of agility, responsiveness, performance and efficiency, with the new Porsche 911 Turbo reducing CO2 emissions to satisfy consumer and international governmental demands by almost 18 per cent over the previous model. It is unique within its segment, requiring between just 11.4 and 11.7 litres per 100 km, depending on the configuration of the car.
In spite of this economy, the new model will accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds while top speed is 312 km/h.
"The 911 Turbo is at the very peak of sports car design and production, and with even more power and unprecedented fuel economy, it sets a high benchmark for other manufacturers to match," said Deesch Papke, managing director of Porsche Middle East and Africa.
Anthony Raymond, brand manager of Porsche Centre Bahrain, added that the new model is ideally suited for customers in the country. "With such a wide range of high-performance cars, the Porsche 911 range offers a model for everyone," he said.
The basic retail price for the new 911 Turbo CoupŽ in Bahrain is BD51,300, whilst the Cabriolet starts at BD55,600.
