DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ, one of Bahrain's biggest mixed-use residential urban developments, organised a site visit for the members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The members visited to gain an in-depth knowledge of the reclamation process as part of an extended educational exercise.
RICS has its headquarters in London and comprises some of the world's best professionals in terms of property and construction related activities.
The RICS membership is the globally-recognised mark of property professionalism.
The members will be imparted detailed knowledge about the best practices in the reclamation process and its challenges. They will also be given additional information about how edge revetments ensure the stability of the reclaimed land.
Aaref Hejres, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq said: "Reclamation has literally been the backbone of urban development in Bahrain.
"In the last 26 years the kingdom's surface area has increased by around 11 per cent. This calls for ethical and eco-friendly land reclamation techniques which can be used as case studies for future land reclamation projects.
"Diyar Al Muharraq has always given eco-friendliness top priority and the reclamation processes we follow are undoubtedly the most economically and ecologically viable. In fact, our processes have helped us to keep the ongoing development as per schedule.
"The site visit is an attempt to further consolidate our commitment towards our eco-system and is also a step towards increasing awareness about our ethics-driven work system that meets global standards."
The Diyar Al Muharraq site has the potential for around 30,000 dwellings, housing over 120,000 people. Situated on the northern shores of Muharraq, its amenities will include over 40 kilometres of waterfront, together with sandy beaches as well as schools, medical centres, parklands, sports facilities, and a wide selection of retail services including a shopping mall, showrooms, banks and hotels.
