FERRARI (Felipe Massa 3, Fernando Alonso 4): Alonso kept the overall lead, fighting back from last place after making a poor start and being nudged into a spin at the first corner. Massa got away well, moving up to second from fifth at the first corner but was unable to hold position. He still celebrated his second podium in a row. Ferrari are now 16 points clear of McLaren.

MCLAREN (Jenson Button 1, Lewis Hamilton 6): Button's first win for McLaren (in only his second race with the team) and second in a row in Australia. He made the call to come in early for slick tyres on a damp track and reaped the rewards. Hamilton started 11th, was fighting for second place but was then called in for a second change of tyres that ended his hopes. The Briton capped an eventful weekend by colliding with Webber on the penultimate lap.

MERCEDES (Nico Rosberg 5, Michael Schumacher 10): Rosberg again eclipsed his more illustrious team mate with a solid drive. Schumacher, making his comeback at the age of 41, pitted at the end of the first lap for a new front wing and then struggled to get back into the reckoning, stuck for a long period behind Toro Rosso's Alguersuari and then making a late surge for a point. Not his most impressive day in a racing car.

RENAULT (Robert Kubica 2, Vitaly Petrov retired): Kubica jumped Massa in the pits and then held on for his first podium finish since Brazil last October with BMW-Sauber and Renault's first since Singapore in September. Petrov ran in the top 10 for a while but got stuck in the gravel after changing to slick tyres.

RED BULL (Mark Webber 9, Sebastian Vettel retired): Vettel started from pole for the second race in a row and again failed to make the podium, skidding into the gravel with a brake failure while leading. Webber set the fastest lap of the race but ninth was a big disappointment for the home crowd after he qualified on the front row. He was reprimanded by stewards for causing the collision with Hamilton.

FORCE INDIA (Vitantonio Liuzzi 7, Adrian Sutil retired): Liuzzi finished in the points for the second race in a row, while Sutil drew another blank. The German suffered a loss of engine power on lap seven. He returned to the pits to try and fix it but retired on lap nine.

WILLIAMS (Rubens Barrichello 8, Nico Hulkenberg retired): Barrichello kept Williams in the points while Hulkenberg's race ended on the first lap when his car was speared by Kobayashi's Sauber at turn six.

TORO ROSSO (Jaime Alguersuari 11, Sebastien Buemi retired): Alguersuari, who turned 20 last week, had a good scrap with Schumacher before being overtaken with only a few laps remaining. It was still the most competitive performance of his fledgling F1 career. Buemi was hit from behind in the first lap melee and retired.

SAUBER (Pedro de la Rosa 12, Kamui Kobayashi retired): De la Rosa was close to grabbing the team's first points of the season but his tyres were too degraded by the end to hold on to 10th place. Kobayashi crashed on the first lap.

LOTUS (Heikki Kovalainen 13, Jarno Trulli did not start): Malaysian-owned Lotus again finished as first of the new teams but Trulli failed to start due to an hydraulics problem while on the grid, with the car pushed back to the garage.

HRT (Karun Chandhok 14, Bruno Senna retired): Chandhok finished only his second race in F1, with Hispania (HRT) becoming the second of the new teams to get to the finish. Senna's race ended after five laps with an hydraulics problem. Chandhok went off twice, wrecking the car's floor.

VIRGIN (Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi retired): Both cars started in the pit lane after changing parts in the fuel systems following a pick-up problem on Saturday. The highlight of Glock's race was passing Michael Schumacher on lap five after his compatriot had overtaken him. He retired 15 laps from the end with a suspension problem. Di Grassi retired after 26 laps with an hydraulics failure.
