Louis Oosthuizen finally broke his duck on the European Tour with an impressive victory in the Andalucia Open in Malaga.

The South African, four times a bridesmaid but never the bride, carded a final round of 67 to finish three shots clear on 17 under par. Oosthuizen's maiden success, which comes just a week after he finished runner-up to Welshman Rhys Davies at the Hassan II Trophy in Morocco, clinches him a trip to Augusta for this year's Masters.

The 27-year-old had to win to climb into the World's Top 50. He did it in impressive fashion, taking over at the top with a second day 63 and closing with rounds of 66 and 67 for a 17 under aggregate of 263.

Much has been made of England having eight players in next week's Masters, but the South African contingent is arguably even stronger. England now has three players in the world's top ten, and all are playing well ahead of the opening Major of the season.

With Oosthuizen now a winner and Ernie Els back in superb form the rainbow nation now have two more contenders teeing it up at Augusta.

Charl Schwartzel tops the European Tour money list and finished second to Els in Miami recently, while Trevor Immelman was Masters Champion two years ago and Retief Goosen, Tim Clark and Rory Sabbatini have all been second there in recent years.

Oosthuizen has left it late to join his illustrious compatriots in the field for Augusta, but in the end he did it in style. The 27-year-old was 75th in the world rankings in early February, but in his last five events he has come second, third, 44th, second and now first.

Maybe this year we will see a battle between the northern and southern hemispheres, but from the east side of the Atlantic and not the west!

Nobody knows what sort of form Tiger Woods will be in or what reaction will be coming his way from the informed Georgia patrons. Lefty is struggling a bit with his consistency so Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker are probably the favourites to spoil the non-American party.

Last April Oosthuizen, a product of the Ernie Els Foundation, edged American Davis Love out of 50th spot - and therefore out of Augusta - by 0.045 ranking points. He went on to miss the halfway cut on his debut by five strokes.

This time he made it with a bit more to spare and will hope to improve his performance there as well.
