TOO HOT TO TROT

With Glanders very much the topic of the week/month/year I would like to say the front page article in last week's GulfWeekly about Dr Wernery was brilliant - very informative.

This week saw many more results returned from the laboratory in Dubai, with stables being told on an individual basis.

In respect of having your horse tested, as Dr Wernery stated, if the horse has symptoms and the blood test is returned as positive, the horse must be destroyed.

If the horse has no symptoms and the blood test is returned as positive - the horse must be isolated and retested. If the second test is returned as positive, the horse should then be destroyed even if it shows no clinical symptoms.

If you visit the Facebook page called 'STOP GLANDERS IN BAHRAIN' you will find many interesting articles, facts and information about glanders. Also, there has been a petition launched asking for measures and mandatory rules to be put in place - you can access the online petition on www.petitiononline.com/Bm042010/petition.html

I was going to tell everyone again how it is spread, what it is, etc., but I believe this information is already available on the site above and Dr Wernery covered all the aspects.

If you have any questions or would like to tell people about your experiences with the glanders issue, then please contact me by emailing helen2blake@hotmail.com or write to editor@gulfweekly.com

Next week I will highlight the work of Serina Rolph whose magic hands manage to massage poorly horses back to full fitness (glanders excluded).
