Gulf Weekly Psstt! VW Passat is here

THE future is looming around every corner with each decision we make and every road we travel. Fortunately the ride is smooth and comfortable if you're driving the Volkswagen Passat CC.

There are many things I love in life ... my friends, my family, my guitar and now I can confidently add yet another item to the list, this car!

Obviously, when driving safety is a primary concern and not just safety for oneself but also the safety of everyone in the vehicle. That's why the Passat is such a good option for the safety conscious driver, rigorous tests have shown that the bodyshell's state-of-the-art, lightweight construction absorbs a majority of the impact in the event of a crash, minimising damage to the passenger compartment, while protection zones at the front of the vehicle reduce the risk of injury to cyclists and pedestrians.

With a full curtain airbag system, driver's and front passenger's airbags, front seat side impact airbags and driver's and front passenger's whiplash-optimised head restraints providing additional protection, it means you can remain calm and relaxed as you drive.

The vehicle has a number of features that are well worth bragging about, including my favourite feature of all time, Park Assist. There are not enough words in the English language to explain my love for this feature. When driving past a parking space, ultrasonic sensors compare the space available with the length of the Passat and, if it's suitable, the Park Assist parallel parking assistant automatically controls the steering as soon as you select the reverse gear, leaving you with nothing to do except enjoy the show from the rearview camera.

Another feature I loved about the Passat is the dual-climate air conditioning unit because while I love the warm weather in Bahrain, everyone else seems to hate it. This means that, more often than not, people are inclined to turn the AC to sub-zero temperatures, leaving me to shiver. However, in the Passat, the touch screen control panel gives you the option of having one temperature for the passenger's AC and a separate one for the driver, sheer genius!

Although the exterior boasts a sleek and elegant appearance, it's what's under the bonnet that counts and there are definitely some pleasant surprises. Even the entry-level engine, the 1.8 litre TSI 160 PS, will convince you of the power this car has. With a maximum torque of 250Nm at just 1,500rpm - and an extremely low fuel consumption, the Passat is on top form.

The gear changes are smooth and barely even audible because the engine is so quiet, at one point I actually had to put the window down because I was worried the engine wasn't running when I turned the car on!

With the special BD9,999 offer from Volkswagen, including five years unlimited mileage warranty valid within all GCC countries, three years warranty against paint defects and 12 years warranty against rust perforation, it's hard to say no to this car!
