The Good Word Society in Muharraq has launched an awareness campaign on the benefits of reusing and recycling computers and electronic goods.

In the first phase, which is expected to begin during Ramadan, volunteers hope to educate public school students, who are part of King Hamad Schools, through interesting and entertaining events in malls and public spaces.

Led by Ahmed Buhazza, a member of its advisory committee and the executive director of the project, the group has put together a booklet entitled 'Recycling - re-used devices and promoting a greener environment'.

Mr Buhazza said: "We want to introduce the idea of recycling, its importance to the environment and its relationship to human development.

"We hope to encourage safe use of computer equipment and the correct way to dispose of it. In the next stage we hope to use the discarded computers and other equipment to train unemployed youngsters on networking, computer hardware and repair."

The booklet also includes the different stages of the project - computer training with the assistance of major companies, enrolling volunteers from the Bahraini youth; collecting, repairing and disposal of equipment.
