A working class hero is something to be

JOHN Lennon was a man like no other.

His penetrating intelligence, sharp wit, reflective, tranquil nature, visionary ideas and profound idealism made him loved and adored by fans worldwide.

Even now, nearly 30 years after his shocking death, Lennon is still celebrated, for the beautiful songs he crafted and the positive change he brought to the world.

While singers nowadays are mostly trashy, materialistic idols with digitally enhanced songs, complete with expletive ridden lyrics, endorsing the seven deadly sins in spectacular fashion, John Lennon was the antithesis-singer.

He sang for peace, love and change. His songs became anti-war anthems and he became a social activist. He was weary of the state of the world and he did everything in his power to change it for the better.

Avant-garde, emotionally charged and powerfully raw, John Lennon's songs, to this day, still touch the hearts of many.

From humble beginings as one of the working class boys from Liverpool with catchy hit songs to a hippie with profound lyrics, John Lennon took the world by storm. I wonder what the world would be like if he hadn't left his mark.

A few days back, the world marked his '70th birthday' with vibrant enthusiasm. Yet, we failed to realise the very essence of the day. We celebrated the man whose only wish was for the world to be a better place. But, here we are, among poverty, war, hunger and chaos. We sang his songs and painted murals, but failed to try to fulfill his only request.

If there were more historic figures like John Lennon and less like Adolf Hitler, we'd be in a much happier place.

Because, now disillusioned by the state of the world, the ones that care have given up and the ones that didn't, are now anesthetised to it.

It was but a simple dream. It still is a simple dream. If only people dreamed the same dream. Like John Lennon sang, with a serene, hopeful smile and dreams greater than our own.

'You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one'
