The 14th AMH Island Classic charity golf tournament is set to tee off at His Majesty King Hamad's private golf course in Saffriya next month.
The three-day event, which is held under King Hamad's patronage takes place on November 4-6 and is considered to be one of the major highlights of Bahrain's sporting calendar.
The tournament is played under the traditional Texas Scramble format with no less than five side contests taking place each day.
The three-day event attracts around 200 golfers comprising of 50 teams, playing for the championship and premier titles. The opening ceremony will be conducted at midday on Thursday November 4, and the awards ceremony will take place on the last day of play.
Bahnaz Abbas, AMH marketing and development manager and Island Classic organiser, said: "The American Mission Hospital is actively involved in a variety of endeavours aimed at improving the quality of life in Bahrain.
"These include the Island Classic, Community Outreach and Family Health magazine with the Island Classic taking precedence as the major fundraiser aimed at providing top quality medical care at reasonable costs.
"This is possible as the funds raised are utilised for the development of the hospital such as launching specialised clinics and upgrading medical equipment.
"I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the golfers the best of luck as they tackle the golf course to win the coveted titles."
Up for grabs once again this year is the much elusive 'Hole-In-One prize' - a Lexus IS 300 sponsored by E.K. Kanoo.
Sponsorship fundraising has enabled the hospital to invest in BD51,500 worth of medical equipment including a neonatal machine, a fetal monitor and a digital portable X-ray system for the dental department.
The hospital has also been involved in a community outreach programme, which raised BD48,000. The first event, supported by BMI Bank, involved giving free health checks and educational lectures at five social centres around the kingdom. The next project being co-ordinated with Standard Chartered Bank will provide free diabetic treatment to the blind.
The Island Classic Gala Dinner will take place at The Ritz Carlton Hotel & Spa's Al Noor Hall on Thursday, November 11 to honour sponsor's support to the cause.
