SAFETY-conscious motorists have been assured by Audi that its latest model range has passed vigorous safety tests, scoring the highest marks by internationally-accredited monitors.

Frequent lane hopping and careless disregard for the rules of the road in the Middle East make crash analysis a crucial factor in choosing a new car.

Figures released in Bahrain last year revealed that 1,810 people were injured in collisions and the latest Traffic Directorate statistics showed an accident was reported every 6.7 minutes.

The Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) consortium, which performs extensive testing of the crash performances of new cars, rated the new Audi range top of its class for safety.

The German manufacturer has been awarded 5 star ratings across the board – the highest rating possible.

The Audi A1, for example, is described as a ‘super-mini’ which, although small in size, came up big in the ratings. It scored a whopping 90 per cent in the adult occupant protection section, 79 per cent for child occupant protection, 49 per cent for pedestrian protection and 86 per cent for its safety assist.

Audi’s achievements continued with the A4, A6 and the Q5 receiving almost identical scores.

An Audi spokesman said: “We are delighted with the findings and they reflect the effort we put in to design the safest possible cars.”
