Over 30 years ago, BMW’s ‘large class’ of cars spawned a successor that was to become a byword for luxury and innovation – the BMW 7 Series – and the company has listed seven reasons why it is confident the latest version will be a resounding success.
Today, the BMW 7 Series is not only the flagship BMW model, but it also continues to set design and technology trends in the luxury car segment, the designers say.
1. Middle East Design: An industry trendsetter from its inception in 1976, the latest 5th generation BMW 7 Series was designed by a Middle East duo – Lebanese-born Karim Habib, who is head of exterior design for all BMW models and Iranian-born, Nader Faghihzadeh, who designed the interior. Launched in November 2008, the BMW 7 Series is a blend of elegant and sporty design and powerful performance that delivers a pleasurable drive.
2. It Speaks Your Language: BMW launched the automotive industry’s first Arabic-language iDrive control system which has an Arabic interface and navigation system. So whether you are looking for nearby hotels, need to receive or write emails, or want to plan your leisure activities, all these functions are provided with a male Arabic voice, and with an option to switch to English.
3. Relevant Technologies to Keep You Connected: BMW is also the first automobile manufacturer to offer Bluetooth and unlimited use of internet in the car via the built-in screens and iDrive controllers. Data such as emails, appointments, contacts or text messages can all be accessed in the control display via the Bluetooth connection. Passengers in the rear can also browse websites and access their e-mails through a separate iDrive controller. For safety reasons, those in the front can only access these functions when the car has safely stopped.
4. Fuel Efficiency with Power: The BMW 7 Series is the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class, proving that sustainability and driving performance can go hand-in-hand. In addition to the conventional BMW 7 Series model, there is a BMW ActiveHybrid 7 which combines the use of a combustion engine with an electric motor. This provides more power and also reduces fuel consumption by 15 per cent compared to the standard BMW 750Li.
5. Connecting to the Outside World: Under the umbrella of BMW ConnectedDrive, a range of new technology features give the driver and passenger’s information and services to help make their driving experience safer and more comfortable.
6. A Work of Art in More Ways than One: Highlighting the company’s commitment to cultural events, BMW sponsored an international youth piano competition and manufactured 100 limited-edition BMW 7 Series models inspired by Steinway & Sons. Both exterior and interior designs are modelled on the colours of the piano keyboard and its contrast between black and white.
7. The Joy of Sheer Driving Pleasure: The BMW 7 Series offers customers a choice of four different engines: the 760Li 12 cylinder, the 750Li V8 and the six cylinder 740Li and 730Li. All models have TwinPower Turbo technology making the engines incredibly responsive while high precision injection ensures the right amount of fuel enters the cylinders.
