The first round of the Men’s Singles Match Play took place at Awali Golf Club on Friday. A number of players received a ‘bye’ through to the second round but there were still a dozen highly-competitive matches to be played.

In the top half of the draw, Richard Pawson, Ali Musbah and Anil Nair were victorious over ZiggyTrzebinski, Graham Hurdon and Christopher Gregory respectively.

Ian Jennings claimed an impressive 2 & 1 victory over Khalid Salem whilst Phil Robinson triumphed by the same margin over young Christian Trzebinski.

This score line continued to be a popular one in the bottom half of the draw with David Spittal and John Loughnane both pipping Dave Bridger and Abdul Elah Fakhro on the 17th green.

In the final three matches of the day, Mohammed Rashid, Graham Tole and Brian Davis each secured their passage into the second round with victories over Vidhu Mittal, Jeffrey Barrett and David Frosdick respectively. Due to concessions, Ahmed Al Noaimi and Mohammed Amin also moved into the second round.

The second round promises to deliver some fantastic action with two of the club’s low handicappers being drawn against one another.

David Spittal and Ahmed Al Noaimi, who both play off a low single figure handicap will no doubt have a competitive battle.

Another tight affair is likely to occur when the competitive Graham Tole comes up against the in-form Brian Davis. Good luck to everyone in the second round.
