Gulf Weekly Late ‘Becks’ equaliser denies Joga Bonita full points

With Arsenal Blue sitting out this week, league rivals St Christopher’s Seniors and Joga Bonito, perched in second and third places before the action kicked off, were given the opportunity to shine.

However the two sides cancelled each other out and picked up a point apiece after a thrilling 1-1 draw.

Against the run of play Joga Bonito snatched an early lead though captain Alaa Al Durazi. But, with just two minutes left on the clock, St Christopher’s striker Rebecca Shorrock coolly scored a late equaliser.

The rivals now lead the table with four points from two games.

St Christopher’s Intermediate also impressed with a whopping 6-0 victory over Eastern Flames and move up to fourth place in the table. Hotshot Rawan Alsaegh scored one within the first two minutes of play. The strike was quickly followed by a neat finish by defender Jana Al Afoo .

Forward Laura Henson and midfielder Tamara Noor also notched a goal apiece before Al Afoo made it 5-0. To compound the side’s misery Eastern Flames were hit for six when they put one through their own net near the end.

U16 Bahrain National team made their first appearance against Arsenal Red. After a goalless encounter for much of the game, striker Noor Anwar produced a fine finish for the U16s and it appeared to be enough to seal their first three points. However, in the dying moments, striker Reema Al Qassab popped up with a last-gasp close range header for the equaliser.
