Gulf Weekly Doubling the fun

Porsche is doubling the driving fun with the new 911 Carrera by adding a Cabriolet alongside the Coupé. First models of the Carrera and Carrera S convertible can be expected as early as March 2012.

The Cabriolet features a unique convertible soft top which retains the typical 911 roof line in its entirety.

Porsche has once again managed to reduce weight and make the new Cabriolet models significantly lighter than their predecessors.

Each of the two new convertibles has the same engine as its Carrera Coupé equivalent. The rear of the 911 Carrera Cabriolet houses a 3.4-litre flat engine generating 350 horsepower. The open-top Carrera S comes with a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine delivering 400bph. For both, the world’s first seven-gear manual transmission is featured as standard.

In terms of efficiency the new convertibles distance themselves even further from other competing models: Both consume less than 10 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. The Porsche dual clutch gearbox (PDK) is available as an option, resulting in even lower fuel consumption and shorter acceleration time.

Compared to the preceding models, the new Cabriolets offer sportier driving characteristics, greater precision and agility thanks to the longer wheelbase, the wider front track as well as the new electro-mechanical power steering.

Depending on the model, additional active control systems, offered as standard or as an option, further enhance the driving dynamics.

The new 911 Carrera Cabriolet is available for order as of today with deliveries starting in March. The starting price for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet in the GCC is $100,969 (BD38,000), whereas the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet is available from $117,818 (BD44,000).
