REGIONAL unrest has led to a spate of inquiries from parents wanting to find out details about placing their children in UK boarding schools, according to a leading consultant visiting Bahrain.
Families flocked to receive free advice from Sue Anderson and Sara Sparling who set up information centres at the Dilmun Club and British Club last weekend.
Expat mother-of-four Sue, whose own children attended boarding schools in the UK, said: “We had a dramatic increase in the number of calls as soon as the regional unrest broke out – some parents were desperate to find places almost immediately which honestly proved quite a challenge.
“It has been an unsettling time and many parents have opted for boarding school as a safe and secure option, particularly those with children facing important examinations.
“Most of the parents seeking information are what I would call ‘mobile families’– those regularly moving around the Middle East for job reasons, then there are British parents who want their children to get a feel of the UK before starting a British university and, thirdly, parents with children who need learning support best found in a school which specialises in it, for example, helping children with dyslexia reach their full potential.”
Boarding schools, however, do not come cheap, on average it costs £25,000 (BD15,000) a year but Sue Anderson Consultants says it specialises in placing each individual child on its books into a specific boarding school which fulfils the child’s requirements and happiness.
“One child was particularly keen on horse riding and we were able to place her in a boarding school with superb equine facilities … so she was able to bring her pony too!” added Sue.
