The inaugural Friendly Football League, sponsored by Ethnic Crafts, got underway at the Football Academy in Saar. The six-a-side tournament is played every Saturday night.
The 19s went down 4-7 to Carla’s FC in the opening match – a thrilling comeback performance by Carla’s FC who looked down and out at half-time.
The 19s dominated the first half with four great finishes from Faraz Ali, Adel Moazzam, Allan Gracious and Ali Muddara. However, in the second half, Carla’s FC blasted seven goals in reply, much to the dismay of their bewildered opponents. Ahmed Ali scored one, while Fadal Al Aali scored four and Mohamed Sayedi grabbed a brace.
In the second match Chrakheyat FC went down 3-6 to the European Football Academy (EFA), who opened their account in the tournament on an impressive note. The EFA youngsters were 2-0 up for most of the game until Salman Bubshait fired a hat-trick in the space of five minutes to bring Chrakheyat back into contention. However, Zakaria Moheidin added some more goals to the tally, taking his total to four, while Ahmed Al Jabal added a brace, to finish off Chrakheyat despite their spirited performance.
