Gulf Weekly Under-12 league kicks off

Arsenal School Bahrain kicked off its U12 nine-a-side club league last Saturday at the Batelco Sports Ground.

The competition features four teams – Arsenal, Galali, Bahrain Club and Riffa Club. Each week a different club will host the matches, and over the next six weeks the teams will play each other twice to determine the winners and runners-up of the league.

“The aim of the league is to offer a structured competitive programme for players, similar to what they would be exposed to in England with weekly matches. It is also an opportunity to strengthen links with other clubs in the kingdom and offer their players similar opportunities,” a school spokesman said.

If this mini league proves to be a success it may be expanded, opening up to more clubs and other age groups.

In the first week, Arsenal SSB beat Galali 2-0 and Riffa Club beat Bahrain Club 2-0. Next week all four teams will head to Galali where the hosts will play Bahrain Club and Arsenal SSB will take on Riffa Club.
