With reference to the recent visit of Sue Anderson Consultants to Bahrain as featured in GulfWeekly, my son Alexander has gone to St Felix Boarding School in the English county of Suffolk. He seems to be very happy there.
Thankfully, Sara at Sue Anderson Consultants was able to come up with a few good suggestions of suitable schools within the shortest time frame you could imagine.
She has a calming influence to flapping and panicking parents and helped us understand we had far more choices of type of school and further education than we had realised.
Being out of UK does make you lose touch very quickly with what is available and what is acceptable. Alexander has settled into boarding life in the UK remarkably well, considering he has lived in various different countries in the Middle East since he was four years old. The housemaster is particularly good with teenage boys and seems to be on their level and Alex respects and likes him very much; often talking about school and his ‘House Family’. For Alex to be concerned at this level shows he is very comfortable.
Academically, Alex is progressing steadily. The sports facilities and level of professionalism at St Felix is very high and Alex, who is good at most sports, really has to stretch himself to stay with the top groups.
The administration staff have been excellent, replying to emails very promptly and undertaking all the requests made of them, making an absent mum feel like they actually care for them as if they are their own children. This is a big comfort to parents.
We have no hesitation in knowing that we would very much like to send his sister in four years’ time when she starts her A’ levels to either of the schools visited at the suggestion of Sue Anderson Consultants.
Some people wear the cultural dress that will please their employer, staff and customers at work and while in public they wear cultural dress that will lure and allure strangers and when at home they wear cultural dress that will please their family or religion.
Some people wear the cultural dress that will please Allah/Almighty-God every time and everywhere, no matter where they are – at work, in public, or at home.

Thank you for publishing Mai Al Khatib’s article about Laura Buemi on the front page of last week’s GulfWeekly. Laura’s mother is a good friend of mine. Sylvia is part of a group of ladies that enjoys lunches every Tuesday in this beautiful country.
My heart bleeds for what Laura is going through at the moment. Being a breast cancer survivor myself, I can relate to all of this pain. Chemo, radiation and the mindset are the things we have to endure during treatment.
By the grace of God, I am doing well and continue to celebrate life with my husband and family as well as enjoying the beautiful things that Bahrain can offer.
With this article you are letting people know that there is always hope. God Bless.

Editor’s note: But will it be the same as they serve up at a good Indian restaurant in the UK? I’ll give it a try.
