I’ll resist the temptation of doing a Star
Wars theme this week, considering it is close to May 4 (the old ‘May the Fourth
Be With You’ joke) so instead will just reminisce about some classic tunes I
stumbled across whilst sorting through my not insignificant CD collection.
Oh the memories when you dig out classics
like The Ramones album (yes, the band that has sold more T-shirts than
records), and even remembering large UK dance floors shuffling to SKA classics
such as Selector – Three Minute Hero, Madness – The Prince and Body Snatchers –
Do The Rocksteady.
There were also some more unusual one hit
wonders such as Maisonettes – Heartache Avenue, Westworld – Sonic Boom Boy and
Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart.
People all remember different songs for
varying reasons, some are good and some are not so good, but there’s no denying
most music stirs an emotion one way or another.
In a previous life, I even had a great time
of compiling C90 audio tapes (remember them?) of various tunes that I could
play on my super-basic tape player in my early 1970s hand-painted 1,000cc Mini
– a car that would pull to the left under heavy braking, had a tendency to not
allow me to select third gear and would go through rear tyres every two weeks
due to a broken rear sub-frame. But I compensated for all that with some
classic tunes to take my mind off whether I’d finish the journey home, or not!
So, memory permitting, here are some of the
albums that may get played later whilst I struggle with some ironing:
Status Quo – 12 Gold Bars
Deep Purple – Machine Head
AC/DC – For Those About To Rock We Salute
You
Police – Reggatta De Blanc
Iron Maiden – The Number Of The Beast
Simple Minds – Live In The City Of Light
And I am sure there are many more, maybe
we’ll dig deeper into the collection and see what else can be resurrected. So,
until next time ponder this: a single fact can ruin a good argument.
