Eastern Flames broke their duck and secured a famous first victory of the season after losing nine on the trot in the Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League.

The Eastern Flames defeated Arsenal Dial Square 2-1. The Flames team, made up of expat women based in Saudi Arabia, have shown incredible spirit and their hard work and team effort paid off on the pitch.

Midfielder Kaye Smith took on a forward position and notched her first strike of the season within the first 15 minutes and intense pressure secured a second Dial Square’s own goal.

Smith said: “We’re all very happy after all of the hard work we have put in – and our coach is delighted.

“The team has improved tremendously since joining the league in September last year and we are grateful to Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain for affording us the chance to play against other female teams. Something we do not get much experience of in Saudi.

“The win was undoubtedly a long time coming and was just the confidence boost the team needed. The celebrations lasted all the way back to Saudi and everyone is excited about maintaining the consistency shown in training and hope it pays off during the rest of the season.”

Dial Square fought back a few days later by beating RCSI 11-3, St Christopher’s Senior’s defeated Arsenal Woolwich 4-1, Eastern Flames lost to U16 Bahrain National team 2-1 and Joga Bonito beat Arsenal Royal 8-0.

On Monday evening, Dial Square played Joga Bonito, Royal Arsenal went up against U16 Bahrain National team, RCSI challenged St Christopher’s Senior’s and Woolwich Arsenal played Eastern Flames at the Soccer City Stadium in Janabiyah as competition hots up to secure the GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy.
