Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) – in its
capacity as official sponsor – hosted the Bahrain National Cricket Under 16
team’s ‘capping ceremony’ on Saturday at the Alba Club before the players set
off on a Malaysian adventure.
The team is taking part in the Asian
Cricket Council U-16 Elite Cup 2012 (Asia Cup) to be held at Kuala Lumpur and
Penang from today until May 13.
The Malaysian Ambassador to Bahrain, Dato
Sri Ahmed Shahizan bin Abdulsamad was welcomed to the event by Alba’s chief
executive, Laurent Schmitt. Also present were Bahrain Cricket Association
president Saleem Eliyas and board members, Ayaz Jilani and Mukhtar Ahmed Yousuf
as well as the chairman of the Indian School, Abraham John, principal of the
Indian School, VR Palaniswamy, principal of the New Millennium School, Dr Arun
Kumar Sharma, principal of Ibn Al Haytham School, K Rahman and other
officials.
Alba allowed the team access to its
state-of-the-art facilities for bowling and fielding practise sessions in
preparation for the competition.
The Bahrain Team will be in Group B along
with Nepal, Malaysia, Kuwait and Iran at the Asia Cup. The other teams
participating in the tournament will be from Hong Kong, Kuwait, Oman, Singapore
and Thailand.
