US Ambassador Thomas Krajeski and Minister
of Industry and Commerce Dr Hassan Fakhro kicked-off the activities of America
Week Bahrain at Seef Mall with a performance by the Bahrain School Choir and a
skateboarding clinic led by visiting American professionals Seth Levy, Ben
Hatchell and Lizzie Armanto.
There were complimentary drinks from
Coca-Cola and Starbucks and food from Elevation Burger and Johnny Carino’s
Italian Grill for guests.
A US Embassy spokesman said: “The week-long
programme honours the longstanding friendship between Bahrain and the US.
America Week Bahrain features a wide variety of events, activities and
promotions for the whole family to enjoy.
“The US Embassy and American Chamber of
Commerce Bahrain present America Week Bahrain to underscore the importance of
fostering deeper economic relations between the two countries. In addition to
numerous events highlighting American companies and brands in Bahrain, America
Week Bahrain will also feature events dedicated to education, music, tourism
and culture.”
The US Embassy also invited 20 orphans from
the Royal Charity Organisation between the ages of six and 10 to the opening
ceremony. Officials exchanged jokes with the boys and girls and the children
were treated to educational magazines and goodies from Toys ‘R’ Us Bahrain. Top
skateboarder Levy, pictured left with the youngsters, also donated skateboards
to the orphans so they could practice some of his tricks.
The rest of the week features seminars and
exhibitions on tourism, business and studying in the US, a charity basketball
tournament, and a variety of other cultural events to follow last night’s
performance by Arab American Country & Western singer Kareem Salama.
