The kingdom’s leading ladies were given the chance to try on some serious bling which normally adorns the necks and wrists of Bollywood’s A-list.

Mala Kumar, wife of the Indian ambassador to Bahrain, treated friends, royalty and VIP guests to a special day of diamond therapy at her home in Saar and in support of the Bahrain Children and Mothers’ Welfare Society.

The sparkling affair, organised in collaboration with AJM Kooheji Group, was entitled Bollywood Diamonds and featured images of beautiful actresses dripping with dazzling diamonds throughout the venue.

The home was decorated with window-box displays showcasing stunning sets and pieces from De Beers Jewellery Bahrain, Korloff Paris, Roberto Coin and Trance Jewellery from the group’s Lifestyle Division.

Mrs Kumar, who was wearing a full diamond set from Indian brand Trance Jewellery, said: “I love to showcase India at every level whether it is in fashion, music, art or dance.

“When approached with the idea of the show I thought it would be fitting to give it a Bollywood theme, especially as there is a big diamond trade in India.

“It is also for a really good cause as a portion of the sales made are being donated to the chosen charity.”

Guests, including Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al Khalifa, the society’s president, and wives of numerous ambassadors stationed in Bahrain, were given a ‘show and tell’ of the different collections on display and a chance to try the pieces on.

While there were so many to choose from, it was the De Beers Garden bracelet, a snip at just under BD200,000, that particularly captured the attention.

Josh Morar, the general manager of AJM Kooheji Group Lifestyle Division, said: “The De Beers Garden bracelet is handcrafted with 107 carats worth of diamonds and is priced at BD195,000. It is a sensational and exclusive piece.

“There is only one in the entire world and it’s actually here in Bahrain.”

He described the event as the first Bollywood Diamond show of its kind and thanked Mrs Kumar for her hospitality.

“We stage a lot of VIP events at ambassadors’ residences and in this case we chose the Indian ambassador’s house because we wanted to bring out the fact that many diamonds come from there,” he added.

“Trance Jewellery, for example, is from India, and actually 95 per cent of the world’s diamonds pretty much come from India because of the cutting and polishing which happens there.”

Artist Shaikha Fajer bint Ali bin Rashid Al Khalifa, who dazzled in the bracelet, said: “It is stunning. I loved that it was handcrafted but I especially adored the one blue sapphire. I thought it added that extra touch.”

Guests were told they no longer have to make it to the shop to pick up a prized gem … as a new home-delivered ‘concierge service’ by AJM Kooheji featuring De Beers Jewellery Bahrain has been launched to cater for VIP customers.

Mr Morar said: “The invitation-only service provides our customers with a private home viewing by a personal diamond expert. The expert will then advise, present and offer exclusive diamonds and collections to them in the privacy of their own homes.”

The event concluded with a delicious variety of Indian dishes proving that diamonds are a girl’s best friend … especially when the spice is right.
