Consumer electronics giant Apple has been awarded a new patent for high-tech spectacles that would display video content, applications, maps, images, and overlay real-time information about your surroundings.
Apple’s patents, filed in 2006, suggest that the company has been interested in the technology for a considerable time. The new patent indicates Apple may be entertaining the idea of competing with Google in yet another market.
The move comes in the wake of Google’s recently unveiled Project Glass, a strikingly similar augmented reality device which the company says will enhance users day-to-day lives.
