Gulf Weekly MASK show must go on

IT’S time to rock up once more for the ever popular Music And Stage for Kids (MASK) Theatre Company open auditions.

MASK’s next production entitled Break Free will be inspired by the West End and Broadway hit musical We Will Rock You which uses a wide selection of Queen songs around which an intricate story of futuristic earth as a land without real music is woven.

“If you think you might have what it takes to step into Freddy’s shoes and dazzle us with your vocal prowess, or maybe you fancy yourself as Meatloaf or Britney, we’d be happy to hear from you!” said Lydia Martin, director of the British School of Bahrain’s Academy of Performing Arts, which includes MASK. “There are numerous solo roles, which demand big voices and charismatic stage presence as well as ample opportunity for chorus singers and dancers.”

The auditions are open to all Bahrain students aged nine to 19 and will be taking a new direction for the show set to be staged next March.

Each auditionee will be required to sing any song or part of a song, in any style, to the audition panel. Anyone who wishes to be considered as a dancer can also demonstrate their dancing skills to the panel in addition to singing.

There will be facilities to play a CD or plug in an iPod where necessary for accompaniment purposes. There will also be a piano and pianist available for those who bring sheet music.

For those students who don’t have anything to sing there will be a MASK accompanist available to teach an extract of a song from the show.

The auditions will be held at the British School of Bahrain tomorrow and Friday.

*Tomorrow- 3.30pm, 4pm, 4.30pm, 5pm, 5.30pm, 6pm.
*Friday- 9am, 9.30am, 10am, 10.30am, 11am, 11.30am.

All auditionees will be notified by Friday evening if they are required to attend a ‘Call Back Audition Workshop’ on Saturday. The audition fee for open auditions is BD1. The audition workshop session costs BD5.
