Gulf Weekly New model is safety focused

KIA’S new striking, rear-wheel drive flagship sedan was launched in a glittering ceremony at Bahrain City Centre Mall.

The BD23,000 luxury Quoris features a host of high-tech comfort and safety features, many never seen before on a vehicle produced by the South Korean marque, and A.A. Bin Hindi, its distributor in Bahrain, is confident it will impress.

“The Kia Quoris features an array of high-tech driving assistance and active safety features,” a spokesman said. “It is an amazing car.”

The ceremony came once again under the patronage of Dr Hassan Abdulla Fakhro, the busy Minister of Industry and Commerce, who has been supporting a week of launches in the motoring sector. It was also attended by Joon Ha Yu, the Korean Ambassador to Bahrain, Hojong Ryu, general manager of sales – Kia Motors Corporation’s reqional HQ, Middle East & Africa, A.A. Bin Hindi group chairman Abdulla Bin Hindi, A.A. Bin Hindi Group CEO and president Ahmed Abdulla Bin Hindi, company managers, officials and members of the press.

The Quoris can cruise at a desired speed, maintain a pre-determined ‘safe’ distance from the vehicle in front, and even come to a complete stop if necessary. It can also detect and warn the driver of approaching potential hazards using innovative audio, visual and haptic alerts.

The sedan also possesses remarkable abilities to monitor and detect changing traffic conditions. If the need arises, it immediately decides the right course of action and precisely takes control, which will attract anxious drivers in the kingdom worried about the alarming increase in the number of accidents on the roads in recent months.

The Quoris employs Kia’s first radar-based Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC). Located in the right side of the front bumper, the radar system constantly monitors the road ahead, up to a range of 174 metres.

With ASCC activated, the Quoris monitors traffic conditions and speed in order to maintain a pre-determined safe distance from the vehicle ahead. The driver can easily adjust this distance by choosing from four options (52, 40, 32 or 25 metres at a speed of 90 kmph) using a button on the steering wheel.

The Blind Spot Detection System features two radar scanners located in each of the outer corners of the rear bumper. Each is capable of detecting objects up to 70 metres away from the rear, and four metres from each side.

While radars can detect objects at long distances, cameras are used to recognise the shape of closer objects such as lane markings.

A forward-facing video camera is at the heart of the new sedan’s Lane Departure Warning System.  It monitors the car’s position in relation to lane markings and triggers a warning in case of unintended lane departures at speeds above 60 kmph.

Four cameras on each side are used to create its class-leading Around View Monitor system, which provides maximum convenience and safety during parking and low-speed maneuvering.

The after-sales service is also likely to attract attention from potential customers. There is a five-years unlimited mileage warranty and 100,000km door-to-door free butler service. With a simple telephone call, personnel will pick up the car, service it and deliver it back. The car also comes with a factory provided free maintenance up to 100,000km.
